Eternity

It was a sultry summer night; the sun had set hours before as the eternally young man, watched the lithe figure of a maiden traverse the narrow lane from the manor house, after a long day of cleaning for infrequently seen lord. He pondered on her beauty, the eyes the shade of deep waters, a flaxen crown, which doth, give the illusion of burning, as it whips in the wind, encompassing a delicate face. Contained therein the vision’s face were lips so full and rosy his greatest desire was to touch them with his own. As he gazed upon her he found himself wondering where this heart he now felt had sprung from. During his rein of 500 years he had never been thusly moved? Would, he contemplated, be capable of watching her grow old and wither, then die? Would he be able to forget her? Why was he driven to go to her and take from her all mortal pains and gift her with eternal beauty and youth? Swiftly he turned from her, and flew back from whence he came. He reached his home as the sun started to rise, entering he retreats immediately to the inner chamber to rest, while the sun reined in the skies.
As eve arrives the Lord of the Manor, stirs from his rest, to the melodies of a voice, the angels would envy. In him it again stirs the emotions he thought were only for mortals not for the likes of him. He glances her way as he enters the hearth room, but he dares not linger for the hunger is upon him. Without so much as stirring the air he is gone, to sate his great hunger. Returning home he cleans the crimson stains from himself, before following as she again leaves to return to her cottage. This night will be different he swears he will not hide in the shadows as he has so often done, merely watching. But his determination falters as errant twig snaps beneath his booted foot, startling the maid. She screams and attempts to take flight, as her foot becomes entangled within the hems of her dress, causing her to topple into his arms. As he raced to catch her as she started her fall. He gazes into her eyes & she loses herself in his, he moves to envelop her in his arms, inhaling her fragrance, he can control himself no more. He takes from her mortality in exchange for eternal bliss.
